The Mole of Windmills restoration-enhancement works

The program for the restoration-enhancement of the monuments complex of the Mole of Windmills began in 1999 and included the systematic archaeological excavations of its internal areas, which led to the discovery of the monumental ancient fortification with two very strong square towers. Important restorative works followed and were completed during the 15 years that followed until the present day.

At the current phase of the South Aegean National Strategic Reference Framework included project, the perimeter protection zone and access points landscaping, in combination to the function of the tourist port, as well as the securing of the pier’s eastern flank with the windmills bases and the Ottoman blockhouse are being delivered.
